A Reflection on Values

A Reflection on Values

As we celebrate World Values Day, MD Bernard Birt reflects on life at Tailored Image over the past year since the company formalised its Vision & Values.

‘Since we began Tailored Image in 1998, a strong sense of values has been integral to our operation. Being a family owned and operated company, we always held a strong sense of family values – of loyalty, of looking out for each other, of encouraging each other to be the best versions of ourselves, for the benefit of our staff and also our customers. This culture grew organically as our company did, and we found ourselves naturally hiring people we felt could attain these values.

As we approached the 25th anniversary of our operation, it felt like the natural time to formalise our values – a statement of our intent to identify ourselves as a value orientated company and ensure that our ambitious plans for growth do not sacrifice these values.

Our core values were discussed at length across all departments and what we agreed upon were four succinct values which define our present as well as asserting the future we wish to see for Tailored Image.

We Commit

We commit and always demonstrate a positive attitude in all that we do. We’re committed to our roles, our customers, our staff, our promises. We will always aim to go above and beyond what is expected of us and exceed our customers’ expectations.

We Care

We care for each other, our jobs, our customers and our suppliers. This level of care for each other and for our customers is what has set us apart from others in the industry and is a huge factor in why so many of our staff have remained with us since the outset.

We Own

We’re a proud family-owned company and it matters to us that our customers know they are dealing with a private enterprise in which people are at the core. We take ownership and are accountability in all that we do. Our staff are encouraged to own their successes and celebrate them, but also to own their mistakes and take responsibility for rectifying. This value of ownership is what has helped us develop into the successful company we operate today – one with quality at its core.

We Respect

We show respect and honesty at all times. This respect works both ways along the chain of command so that all voices are heard and all opinions accounted for. We enjoy a multi-cultural landscape in Tailored Image with around a dozen nationalities celebrated amongst our staff. For this reason a culture of respect is even more pertinent, and embracing this respectful approach brings a greater depth to our cultural understanding.

These are the values that define us. Through every touchpoint of our business, we live out these values daily and as our business has expanded, we already see them informing our recruitment process more and more. We have also found ourselves aligning more closely with our customers since our values have been formalised, and have even been appointed business on the basis of shared values.

As for the future, we feel that as long as we continue to embrace and encourage our values of commitment, care, ownership and respect, the future at Tailored Image is one we will be proud of.’
